General's No. 2 yellow office pencil is the classic everyday graphite writing pencil from the General Pencil Company, a family firm founded in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1889 that still manufactures in the USA. It is a hexagonal, cedar-cased #2/HB pencil tipped with a pink eraser, intended for general school and office writing. General largely withdrew from the mass-market commodity yellow No. 2 trade in 1997 to focus on art supplies, but the line was never fully discontinued: it continues today under named SKUs, the Supreme 550 (#2) and the wider Semi-Hex 498 range (No. 1/B through No. 4/2H), both still made in the USA.
