HOUSE OF GRAPHITE

The Palomino Original was a premium hexagonal graphite pencil introduced by California Cedar Products (Palomino Brands) in the early 2000s; its Japanese graphite in a California incense-cedar casing drew comparisons to the legendary Eberhard Faber Blackwing and led the company to revive the Blackwing name. The orange, end-dipped lacquered range was produced in seven grades (2H, H, HB, B, 2B, 4B and 6B) while the blue version was made only in HB, and the HB was sold both capped (no ferrule) and as an eraser-tipped writing version. The line has since been discontinued as the maker shifted entirely to Blackwing — every version is now sold out on the official store and listed as "vintage" — though a limited Blackwing "Eras" commemorative reissue appeared in 2021.
