ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Ceres 909 is Musgrave Pencil Company's flagship yellow #2 pencil, made in Shelbyville, Tennessee, at one of the last surviving American pencil factories (operating since 1916). It is a hexagonal, cedar-cased general-purpose writing pencil with a graphite core and an eraser-tipped ferrule, marketed as Musgrave's most popular all-around school and office pencil. The #2 is the current mainline production grade, while the collector reference Brand Name Pencils documents the line in harder vintage grades (No.1, No.3 and No.4); Musgrave also issues commemorative finishes such as the patriotic 'America250' red, white and blue edition. This specimen: Ceres 909 in grade #4.
