ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Choo-Choo 8500 is an oversized round jumbo school pencil made by the Musgrave Pencil Company in Shelbyville, Tennessee, where the family-owned firm has produced pencils since 1916. It has a #2 (HB) graphite core, a yellow finish with a metallic blue imprint, and a gold ferrule fitted with a pink eraser. Its thick cedar barrel (about 10 mm / 3/8 inch diameter) is designed as a beginner's pencil for young children learning to write.
