ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Ticonderoga is Dixon Ticonderoga's flagship yellow hexagonal writing pencil, marketed as "The World's Best Pencil" and sold mainly as the classic No. 2 (HB), with the line also offered in No. 1 (B, extra soft), No. 2½ (medium), No. 3 (hard) and No. 4 (extra hard). Each pencil pairs Dixon's "exclusive" graphite core with a green ferrule and a pink latex-free eraser. Originally made in the USA, US production ended in 1999 and it is now manufactured in Mexico and China, with casings that vary between cedar and basswood depending on the production run. This specimen: Ticonderoga — "The World's Best Pencil" in grade #1 (Extra Soft / B).
