ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Dixon Oriole is an economy-grade yellow writing pencil with a bonded #2 (HB) graphite core in a hexagonal, jelutong-wood barrel (a low-cost alternative to cedar). It is tipped with a pink eraser in a brass-coloured ferrule and is marketed as a dependable, inexpensive everyday pencil for schools and offices, and as suitable for standardized tests. Current production is in China, though the line was historically US-made and batches have also been produced in Mexico and India.
