HOUSE OF GRAPHITE

Dixon's Eldorado, "The Master Drawing Pencil" (model 188), was a premium wood-cased graphite drawing pencil made by the Joseph Dixon Crucible Company of Jersey City, New Jersey (and also produced in Canada from 1931). It was sold in 17 hardness grades running from 6B to 9H; later production carried the "Typhonite" graphite branding and is remembered for very dark, smooth lines with strong point retention. The line is long discontinued and now survives chiefly as a vintage collector's pencil. This specimen: Eldorado / Typhonite Eldorado — "The Master Drawing Pencil" in grade 2H.
