ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Mars 1225 was J.S. Staedtler's wood-cased graphite drawing pencil and the precursor to the Mars Lumograph, made at the company's Mars works in Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Bavaria. A pencil blog citing collector records dates its production from 1908 to about 1930, after which the Lumograph succeeded it. Staedtler's own trade catalogue lists the No. 1225 as a hexagonal pencil offered in 17 degrees from 6B to 9H, finished in light-blue lacquer with gold stamping, and marketed for artists, architects and engineers. It is long discontinued and now sold only as a vintage collectors' item.
This specimen: Mars 1225 in grade 6B.
