ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Caran d'Ache Swiss Wood 348 is a premium hexagonal HB graphite pencil made entirely in Switzerland by Caran d'Ache (Geneva, established 1915). Its casing is Swiss beech from the Glovelier forests in the Jura, left under a clear matt water-based varnish that shows the natural grain, and finished with a red-dipped end cap bearing the white Swiss cross. The HB lead is smooth with strong point retention; the pencil is eraserless and aimed at everyday writing.
