ARCHIVIST'S NOTES
The Koh-I-Noor 1697 "Extra Flexible" is a plastic-cased (not wood-cased) hexagonal graphite pencil made by Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth in the Czech Republic, sold in HB, 2B and 2H grades. The "extra flexible" name refers to its plastic barrel, which the manufacturer states is more flexible and break-resistant than a conventional wooden pencil; the pencils are black with coloured stripes (red, yellow or blue) and supplied 12 per box. It is intended for general/universal use and has no eraser, while the otherwise-identical 1397 line is the eraser-tipped version.
